Time’s A’Wastin’ is a OneClick palette with a timer to keep track of just how much time you’re “wasting” on the Internet. Current and cummulative times are kept, with a user-configurable reset period.
Requirements:
• Any Macintosh capable of running Open Transport/PPP.
• Open Transport/PPP
• AppleScript
• OneClick
• OneClick “mod” extension (included).
Feature Set
• Movable global palette appears whenever a PPP connection is open.
• Timer shows both current connection time and cummulative online time.
• Automatically resets the cummulative time on a user-configurable day.
• Open a PPP connection with a user-configurable key shortcut.
• Close a PPP connection with a single mouse click or, optionally, a user-configurable key shortcut.
Installation
• Place the “mod” extension in the OneClick Extensions folder (StartupVolume:System Folder:Preferences:OneClick Folder:Extensions).
• Open the OneClick Editor (from the menu bar or the Apple menu).
• Click on the Palette Tab
• Select “Import Palette…” from the “New Palette” popup menu.
• Select “Import as Global Palette.” If you forget, select the “Global Palette” checkbox in the Editor.
• Navigate to the “Time’s A’wastin’ Palette” and select it.
• Close the OneClick Editor. When a PPP connection is opened, the palette will appear and can be configured.
Use
When an OT/PPP connection is opened, the Time’s A’Wastin’ palette will appear. You may click on the connect time to temporarily toggle the current connection and cummulative online times; click on the scissors to disconnect; and configure the palette from the menu in the upper left corner of the palette.
Configuration
• Disable Warnings: TAW will warn you if Open Transport, the PPP Commands scripting addition, AppleScript or the One Click extension “mod” are missing or not loaded. If you prefer that these warnings not show when the palette is loaded (and thus not tie up your Mac if it’s unattended), select this option.
• Beep on Connect: TAW will beep (using the current System beep) whenever a PPP connection is opened if this option is selected.
• Reset every nn days/Reset on dd day of month: one or the other of these options may be selected, or both may be deselected.
Reset every nn days: select this option to reset the cummulative timer every 1 to 365 days.
Reset on dd day of month: select this option to reset the cummulative timer on the 1st to 31st day of the month. TAW is smart enough to reset the timer on the last day of the month if the selected day is not valid for a given month.
To change the value for either option, option-click on the Configure menu.
• Reset Now: resets the cummulative timer immediately. There is no confirmation.
• Connect: the palette includes an invisible button named Connect that has a key shortcut of ctl-opt-c. This may be changed via the OneClick Editor.
• Disconnect: the Disconnect button has no key shortcut, but one may be assigned via the OneClick Editor.
